TMD Causes & Treatment
The temporomandibular joint (or TMJ) is a hinge that connects your jaw to the temporal bones of your skull. It lets you move your jaw up and down and side to side so you can talk and eat.
TMD occurs when there are issues with the joint, including misalignment of the teeth or jaw, airway issues or trauma.
Once your dentist diagnoses you with TMD, they will provide you with a treatment plan to relieve your symptoms and address the causes.
Signs & Symptoms
TMD can cause a variety of painful symptoms which can worsen during stressful times including:
- Headaches and migraines
- Teeth grinding or clenching
- Jaw, face and/or neck pain
- Ringing in the ears
